Barbarians

The German production of this historical moment between the Romans and Germanic tribes in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 A.D looks exciting. Of course there are lots of ways that this story of one of Rome’s great disasters could fail to live up to this trailer, but I’m glad Netflix continues to invest in these historical dramas. Another thing to look forward to in this fall.

The Green Knight

While this film will probably hold little to no historical content, I’m still intrigued with its fantastical warrior design. Movies like this also can remind us that even though other shows and movies attempt to recreate a feeling of a time period in our history, they are also just fantastical imaginings of those historical stories. A blend of myth and facts rendered visual by the magical arts of cinema to give us modern tales of ancient ones. And I’m excited to see this Arthurian legend told with new color and techniques.
